Medical review board
Every clinical page on this site is read by a licensed physician before it publishes, and carries their name and the date they signed it.
The board is being formed and currently has no members.Until a reviewer has signed a given page, that page displays “Reviewed — pending” in its byline rather than implying a review that has not happened.
We are aware this is the wrong way round — the reviewer should precede the content. Pages published in this state are limited to material sourced directly from FDA labelling and professional society consensus statements, which are cited in full so you can check them yourself.
What a reviewer does
- Reads each clinical page against its cited sources before publication.
- Checks that evidence labels are applied correctly — that nothing contested is presented as established.
- Flags anything overstated, and can block publication outright.
- Re-reviews pages when the underlying evidence changes.
Reviewers are named publicly with their credentials on the pages they sign. They have no role in commercial arrangements and are never asked to approve one.
What we ask for
Board certification in plastic surgery is the closest fit, though we are also interested in physicians in rheumatology, immunology and breast surgery given the subject matter. We ask for licensure we can verify, and a willingness to be named.
We do not ask reviewers to endorse a position on breast implant illness. We ask them to hold the content to what the evidence supports — which cuts in both directions, and has already meant publishing material that contradicts popular community advice.
Founding reviewer
The founding reviewer seat carries a permanent credit on the review board page and first placement in the surgeon directory when it launches. If you are a surgeon whose practice includes explant work and you are interested, write to clinical@explanthealth.com.
