Most information about breast implant removal is written to sell something — an operation, or a protocol. This is an attempt at the third thing: a reference that tells you how strong the evidence is, including when the answer is that nobody knows yet.

The problem we are trying to solve

Women researching explant surgery are typically doing it for a long time, often a year or more, and usually alone. What they find divides into two camps. Surgical practices publish pages designed to convert a consultation booking. Advocacy sites and wellness businesses publish material that treats implants as the cause of nearly everything and sells detox protocols alongside the claim.

Neither serves someone who simply wants to know what is actually known. The first understates the risks. The second overstates the certainty. Both leave a reader who has already been dismissed by doctors with no reason to trust anyone.

What we do differently

We mark every clinical claim with the strength of the evidence behind it — established, emerging, or contested. Contested claims are labelled rather than deleted, because unproven is not the same as untrue, and because pretending a disagreement does not exist is its own form of dishonesty.

That means we publish things neither camp likes. We say that breast implant illness is not a formally defined diagnosis. We also say that the symptoms people report are real, reported consistently, and worth taking seriously. We say that en bloc capsulectomy is not the standard of care for implant illness, which contradicts a great deal of community advice. We say that implants are not lifetime devices, which contradicts a great deal of surgical marketing.

Who reviews this

Every clinical page is reviewed by a licensed physician before publication, and carries their name, credentials and the date they signed it. Pages that have not yet been reviewed say so rather than implying otherwise. We are currently recruiting the founding reviewer for the medical review board.

How this is funded

ExplantHealth is independent. It is not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any implant manufacturer, surgical practice, device company or supplement brand.

We intend to fund the work through paid listings in the surgeon directory. Where that applies it will be disclosed on the page it applies to. Paying for a listing will not buy editorial coverage, a recommendation, or a change to any clinical page. We will not sell supplements, we will not run affiliate links to health products, and we will not take money from implant manufacturers.

Where we are

This site is new and openly under construction. Pages that do not exist yet say so; features that are not built say so. We would rather look unfinished than look complete by publishing filler.
